If you want to get married in 2027, the calendar decides more of your plan than you might expect. By Drik Panchang's reckoning for Pune, the year has three wedding windows: 15 January to mid-March, mid-April to about 12 July, and 10 November to 14 December. August, September and October have no muhurats at all. A wedding planned well needs roughly twelve months from the first serious search to the wedding day, so the window you can realistically reach depends on where you stand today.
This guide lays out the 2027 windows, a month-by-month timeline from rishta to wedding, when to book a hall in Pune or Mumbai, what to sort out for registration, and the budget lines families most often forget.
The 2027 wedding muhurat windows
The counts and weekend dates below are from Drik Panchang for Pune. Some of these muhurats last only a few hours or fall at night, so check the exact window before you book anything.
| Month | Muhurat dates | Saturdays and Sundays with a muhurat |
|---|---|---|
| January | 9, from 15 January | 24, 30, 31 |
| February | 13 | 14, 21, 27, 28 |
| March | 7, up to 14 March | 14 |
| April | 9, from 18 April | 18, 24, 25 |
| May | 19 | 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 30 |
| June | 16 | 5, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, 27 |
| July | 5, up to 12 July | 11 |
| August to October | none | none |
| November | 11, from 10 November | 20, 21 |
| December | 6, up to 14 December | 12 |
Why the gaps:
- Mid-March to mid-April: the Sun is in Meen (Pisces), a solar month in which weddings are not held.
- Mid-July to early November: Chaturmas runs from Ashadhi Ekadashi to Kartiki Ekadashi. In 2027 Venus is also set from late July to early September, and Jupiter for a few days in September.
- From mid-December: the Sun enters Dhanu (Sagittarius), and weddings pause until Makar Sankranti in January.
Marathi almanacs such as Date Panchang and Kalnirnay sometimes add or drop a date compared with the online panchangs, so confirm with your family guruji. Our month-by-month list of shubh vivah muhurats for 2027 has the dates in detail.
Which 2027 window can you reach from here?
Count back from the window, not forward from today.
- January to March 2027 (three to five months away). Possible if the match is already fixed. Weekend muhurats at popular halls may be taken, so stay open to a weekday date or a smaller venue.
- April to July 2027 (six to nine months away). The comfortable choice for a family that has found the match or is close to it. May and June have the most dates, but the heat in May and the monsoon from June both affect the plan.
- November to December 2027 (twelve to fourteen months away). The realistic window if the search is still on. It has only seventeen dates and three weekend ones, so expect competition for those.
A 12-month timeline from rishta to wedding
Count the months back from the wedding. Many Marathi families move faster than this, with the sakharpuda and the wedding a few months apart; the order of the steps still holds.
12 to 10 months before: the search. Agree within the family on what matters: city, education and work, whether you will match kundalis, and how open you are on community. Prepare a clear biodata and good photographs. If the search is still on, Vivah Swapn lists verified Marathi profiles from Pune and across Maharashtra.
10 to 8 months before: meetings and the decision. The first meetings, the kande pohe visit, kundali matching if your family does it, and quiet checks on the basics: job, family, any earlier marriage. Give a clear yes or no; a long silence costs the other family as much as it costs you.
About 8 months before: the baithak. Both families sit together and settle the shape of the wedding: one day or two, the guest count from each side, the menu style, and who pays for what. Write the decisions down. Demands for dowry have no place in this conversation, and giving or taking dowry is an offence under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. Our post on dowry law and wedding expenses explains where the line is.
8 to 7 months before: the muhurat and the sakharpuda. Ask the guruji for two or three dates in your window, then fix the sakharpuda date.
7 months before: the hall and the caterer. Book both in the same week as the muhurat. More on this below.
6 to 5 months before: vendors and clothes. Photographer and videographer, decorator, the guruji for the ceremony, band or sanai-choughada, makeup artist. Order the bride's saree early; a handwoven Paithani can take time to source. Buy or order jewellery and the groom's outfit.
4 to 3 months before: guests and invitations. Finalise the list, design and print the patrika, book rooms for outstation guests, and apply for leave. Relatives coming from abroad need this much notice for tickets and visas.
2 months before: distribution and rituals. Start handing out patrikas, by visit to close family as many still expect. Plan the kelvan, the halad and the devak, and the rukhwat if your family keeps it.
The last month: confirmations. Final headcount to the caterer, every vendor reconfirmed, a day-of coordinator chosen from among the cousins, and the registration documents ready.
After the wedding: registration. Covered below.
When to book a hall in Pune and Mumbai
The rule in both cities is the same: book the hall in the week you fix the muhurat. There are only so many muhurats, and every family in the city is choosing from the same list. Saturday and Sunday muhurats in February, May and the November-December window go first.
In Pune, the choice is broadly between a traditional mangal karyalaya, which usually comes with a kitchen, rooms for the two families and space for the rituals, and lawns or banquet halls. Lawns suit the winter and spring dates. For a June or early July muhurat, remember the monsoon usually reaches Pune in June, and an open lawn needs a covered fallback.
In Mumbai, space is the constraint. Many halls are rented by session rather than by the day, parking is limited, and travel time across the city decides how many guests actually come. A hall close to a station on the line most of your guests use is worth more than a slightly grander one an hour away.
Before you pay the deposit, get these in writing:
- The date, the muhurat time slot and when you can occupy the hall
- What the rent includes: kitchen, rooms, generator back-up, chairs, the stage, parking
- Whether you must use the hall's caterer or decorator
- Taxes, extra-hour charges and the deposit schedule
- The cancellation and refund terms, including if the muhurat moves
Registration: what to plan before the wedding
Under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, the groom must be at least 21 and the bride at least 18. Couples married with Hindu rites register after the wedding at the local marriage registrar, usually the municipal corporation's ward office or the gram panchayat. You will need age and address proof for both, wedding photographs, the patrika, a receipt from the hall or a certificate from the guruji, and three witnesses who attended. Keep these together in the last month so registration can happen soon after the wedding.
If you are marrying under the Special Marriage Act instead, the notice has to be filed at least 30 days before the marriage, so start that two months ahead. Couples moving abroad after the wedding need the certificate for a spouse visa, which is one more reason not to leave it for later. The full process is in our guide to marriage registration in Maharashtra.
Budget lines families most often under-count
Fix the overall budget at the baithak, then split it line by line. The costs vary too much between towns and families for a single number to mean anything, but the lines themselves are much the same everywhere.
| Line | What decides the cost |
|---|---|
| Hall or lawn | Date (weekend muhurats cost more), city, session or full day |
| Catering | Number of plates times the menu, for every meal including the kelvan |
| Clothes | The bride's sarees, the groom's outfit, the immediate families |
| Jewellery | Weight of gold, and the gold price on the day you buy |
| Decoration and mandap | Flowers, lighting, stage, devak set-up |
| Photography and video | Number of days covered, and the album |
| Patrika and distribution | Printing, and the travel to hand them out |
| Guruji and puja materials | Dakshina and samagri for every ritual |
| Guests' stay and travel | Rooms and vehicles for outstation relatives |
| Sakharpuda and reception | Often a separate venue and meal |
| Gifts and aaher | Clothes and gifts exchanged between families |
| Registration | Fees and certified copies |
Two habits help. Budget jewellery in grams rather than rupees, because the gold price can move a lot between the baithak and the purchase. And keep a reserve, around a tenth of the total, for the costs nobody listed.
